Wedding F.A.Q.

How soon do I need to reserve you for my wedding day?
Some Saturdays are a booked a year or two in advance, a handful remain open until a month or two before. Basically, as soon as you set your date, you should start looking for a photographer. June and September are the busiest months for weddings in this area, and, of course there are more weddings on Saturday than any other day of the week.

How do I reserve the day?
Call me to be sure I'm still available for your date. I encourage you to set up a time to come and view my sample albums, and then we can fill out a contract. (I can also mail a contract to couples who live out of town.) When the contract is signed and you've paid your retainer fee ($500), the date is yours!

Do you photograph in black-and-white?
Yes, if you're interested in it; no, if you're not. There are several options to be discussed regarding style and subject matter, and you can let me know your preferences.

How many images do you take at a typical wedding?
Typically I'll photograph two to three times more images than the amount I guarantee in your package. I have no pre-set limit to the number of images that I'll photograph.

Do we see everything that you photograph?
No, that tends to be overwhelming. I will weed out bad expressions, blinks, repetitive images, and anything that is not of top quality. The 5x7's that you receive are better than proofs; they are portraits worth keeping.

Do you charge more for special request photos?
As long as I can fit all your requests into the time allowed, I'll photograph anyone you ask me to at no extra charge. That's what I'm there for!

Can my friends and family photograph too?
It's fine with me as long as it's fine with you. I'm confident that my photos will display a level of professional quality that cannot be duplicated by amateurs. Keep in mind, however, that some churches require us to be done with portraits by a prescribed time, and certain amateur photographers may be slowing us down. In that case, I may ask for help in keeping things on track.

How long does it take to get my album?
It takes about two months from the time you order your album until it's done.

What if my face breaks out on my wedding day?
Basic retouching is included in the album design. This will remove blemishes, and also soften lines under the eyes.

Are you the only photographer at your studio?
Yes, I am. This allows me to offer very personal service. All consultations are with me, and all of the sample prints you see are ones that I actually photographed.

What happens if you can't be at my wedding due to illness or injury?
I am a member of the Fox Valley Professional Photographers Association, the Wisconsin Professional Photographers Association, and the Professional Photographers of America. These organizations keep me in touch with other studio owners who could fill in for me in an emergency, and I'd do the same for them. But, knock on wood, I've never missed a wedding yet, and I don't intend to start missing them now.

How do you handle the pressure of photographing a wedding?
With a smile! And a schedule. It is vitally important to me that the bride and groom enjoy their wedding day, otherwise, how can they enjoy their photos of it? At our pre-wedding planning session, we'll discuss a timeline for the day and special requests, enabling you to enjoy your wedding without worrying about your photos.
